POSE 2024 at Casemates Studios brought together artists, makers, and visitors for a weekend of open studios, workshops, and creativity in Portsmouth’s historic Hilsea Bastion. After such a fantastic response, we’re excited to announce POSE will return again in 2025, October 25th & 26th.
The Big Hilsea Doodle is a giant community artwork that everyone can take part in. We’ll set up a large doodle wall at Casemate Studios where people can draw, write, or sketch their ideas. It’s a space to show what Hilsea means to you now, how you’d like to use Hilsea Halt as a community hub, and what you’d like to see in Hilsea in the future.
Each mark, no matter how small, becomes part of a bigger picture.
The finished doodle will be a collective piece of art created by local voices, capturing both creativity and community vision in one place.
Casemates Studios will once again play an important role in POSE Portsmouth Open Studios by hosting a group of students from the UAL Enterprise Course at Havant College. Over the weekend, the studios will be filled with fresh perspectives and exciting new work as these emerging artists, makers and creatives exhibit and sell their pieces to the public.
The collaboration offers the students a valuable step into the wider creative community of Portsmouth, giving them a platform to share their ideas and gain direct experience of exhibiting in a professional setting. Visitors will have the chance to meet the next generation of artists, support their work, and perhaps take home an early piece from a future career.
Enjoy free live original music at Casemates, where talented local artists bring their unique sounds to the historic studios. From soulful acoustic sets to experimental tunes, each performance offers an intimate, vibrant experience—perfect for soaking up creativity while exploring the space.
The Hill Brothers love jamming, improvising, and composing with other musicians. They do so on a weekly basis at their open mic nights, often only having ten minutes to come up with an idea for a song and craft it into a composition in front of an audience.
They believe in an ever-increasing world of AI and digital tools, that writing music with others in the same room and making a real connection is still the key to creating something inspiring.
Come to this workshop if you’re curious about tips and tricks for writing songs in the moment and how to get the best out of your current playing ability by combining it with the skills of others.
All instruments are welcome: singers, guitarists, keyboard players, bass players, drummers, brass players, and others.
“If you can play some chords or hold a steady beat, you’re ready for this workshop.”
